Course Objective: Zero Tolerance for Abuse in Care Settings
This course equips support workers, SIL staff, nurses, administrators, and case managers with the knowledge, skills, and ethical framework to uphold the NDIS Zero Tolerance mandate against abuse, neglect, and exploitation of people with disabilities. By completing this training, learners will:

Define and Recognize Abuse

Understand what constitutes abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, financial) and neglect in care settings.

Identify subtle warning signs (e.g., changes in behavior, unexplained injuries, financial discrepancies).

Uphold NDIS Zero Tolerance Requirements

Explain the NDIS Commission’s Zero Tolerance Policy and its legal basis (NDIS Code of Conduct, Reportable Incidents Rules 2018).

Know what incidents must be reported, to whom (NDIS Commission, supervisors), and within what timeframe.

Understand legal protections for whistleblowers and consequences for non-compliance.

Foster a culture of safety through supervision, training, and open dialogue.

Adhere to NDIS Practice Standards, Child Protection Laws, and organizational policies (e.g., Bamboo Safeguarding Policy).

Use correct documentation tools (e.g., incident forms) to ensure accountability.

Outcome: Learners will demonstrate competency through scenario-based assessments, enabling them to detect risks, act decisively, and protect participants’ rights while maintaining compliance with NDIS and legal requirements.
